Transfigure Photography ethos is to find the converging line between the world of film, fine art and commercial photography and bound all those agents together to cook up a dream and add it to a reality. I work with an idea, visualise it and create it. Transfigure Photography says as much about me than the name denotes. I have metamorphosed myself from a snapshot photographer to a professional photographer, photographing many different subjects, from seascapes, portraiture, to monster dump trucks.

Photography for me is walking hand in hand with film making, converging the demand for creative exploration and pushing the boundaries in liberating client’s realities to give their photo shoot a new perspective digitally.

I just don’t use my camera to take photographs I work, blend and arouse, still and moving images.

photography vs paintings

Is photography an extension of painting?

As we know photography is the art of light, painting is the art of line and colour. The goal is the same, but the medium is completely different. As Cartier-Bresson said,

… Drawing and photography start from the same point: the act of looking; then the drawing is an elaboration of reality, photography and a supreme moment captured in a single instant.

According to George Bataille, the first manifestation of man, the self – affirmation of its existence, was the picture of his hand, his silhouette (as he later made Man Ray in their frames or rayograms), in prehistoric caves. It is risky, but this is the first artistic expression because art is above all the affirmation of self. No artist, no craftsman, no art. “Art is a mental thing.” Said Leonardo da Vinci.

Furthermore photography differs from other art forms in fact a fundamental and distinctive. The fact taking a picture involves being there. Reveals the existence of the referent, as Roland Barthes say. In other Fine Arts, the model can be present only in the subconscious, or is a reflection of the experience, or is the fruit of lies. Hence, it is, in theory, a model of truthfulness and objectivity, relatively. Man Ray clarified everything with the following words:

“I paint what can not be photographed, something out of the imagination, or a dream, or a subconscious impulse. I photograph things that do not want to paint, things that already exist.”

The photograph is so powerful, that when there is irrefutable proof of truth. But it is not an exact replica. Deformations causing objectives, its distortions, how different can be an image made with a wide angle of another captured with a telephoto lens are elements to consider. To say the lie that is the transformation of a three-dimensional object in one-dimensional. The use of filters, different saturation, reduced dynamic range of roles and sensors against inabarcable of reality … are hundreds of shades that stagger make the claim of verisimilitude. Manipulation may be such that it can remove the members of a photo. Just remember the photographs of Lenin at the time of Stalin or all digital inventions. The reality can never be represented in an instant.

Photography is not objective because it always offers the vision of the author except – perhaps – the picture postcard that takes everyone and it ends up being considered the only real vision that everyone recognizes and in no way disconcerted. They are accepted as universal truths. The Eiffel Tower is always taken from the Champs Elysees, the Puerta de Alcala from the street that gives it its name, or at most from the Retiro Park, and who go to Park Guell and do not remove the lizard presiding over the entrance is like there had been. Long lived a curious experience as a photographic rally jury. One of the issues was finding a dollhouse in the middle of a fenced field. The vast majority of participants found the house. Photography is the social art. Everyone has taken a machine and has thrown hundreds of photographs, either on vacation or at family parties.
